“How heavy are your press pads?”

Pressure compensating pads are used widely throughout the laminate manufacturing industry. 

Products come in various lengths, thicknesses and weights to suit manufacturing conditions, and specific process requirements. 

Marathon produce a wide range of high performance press pads, used across different industries. 

Current standard weights range from 2,600 g/m2, to 4,800 g/m2

A heavier (and sometimes thicker) press pad may be required if a production run requires a higher standard of surface finish. 

This might be down to where and how products are to be used, and/or any other specific customer or industry requirements that dictate overall finishing and technical properties. 

Your choice may also be affected by the board density you are working with, pressure being applied during the production process, unequal platens, and/or the condition of the press plates. 

If press platens are not completely parallel, it is recommended that you choose a heavier/thicker pad, as this will accommodate any inaccuracies between the press plate and the heated platen.
